Conversation in the food photography studio often leads to…well… eating. I did a poll the other day and got interesting results of what us 3 folks like to eat for comfort. Someone described their Northern Italian parents’ incredible lasagna, and the sleuthing required for getting the secret touches (like cake and pastry flour instead of hard durham wheat flour in the pasta). Another’s Chinese dad (a professional Chef), created a fun family rivalry with Coconut Cream Pie Bake-offs …but always proclaims them all as winners.
Someone else described their Japanese comfort food as “a simple rice porridge with pickled umemboshi plums“…and just then the phone rang, announcing a rare shipment of (check this steamykitchen.com link out…)Matsutake mushrooms as having just arrived at SANKO. These mushrooms sound am-maz-zing…but his own kids prefer cucumber and brown rice sushi.
Being I’m often (but not always) living a short walk from the Black River Cheese Factory, it means gooey Mac and Cheese is not an uncommon cheesy treat around here…but it all started with….here it comes….KD.
This weekend I’m testing a few chocolate recipes, and entertaining quietly with my boyfriend Gregor and a wonderful Croatian friend. We’re having turkey and all the fixings.” Traditional style…no funny stuff in the stuffing, please”. Maybe next year there will be more than the one single, delicious apple on my newly planted trees. I do love sneaking apples into my turkey stuffing, along with onions, sage, and a few raisins. Maybe he won’t notice the chestnuts in there? Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and thank you for visiting me here.
