Every now and again something stirring happens where the business armor doesn’t quite cover. Just this past Apr 30, veteran photographer Robert Wigington and his wife Carole, closed the doors to the studio for the last time. It was amongst all of our favourite places to shoot, tucked away in a narrow lane way on Clinton Place, in Toronto’s Little Korea area at Bloor and Christie. That cozy studio nurtured alot of us through the lessons of making food look fabulous on film. Bob, or Wiggie, or Wig, made his graceful mark on us all in the food photography biz (or at least those of us that remember Polaroids). He also enriched how we view indigenous foods, with the photography featured in Anita Stewart’s fabulous book “The Flavours of Canada”…and a must-have for any collection.
With the way his lighting meticulously bent it’s way around sets being often more interesting than the food we were actually shooting….we also loved him as a punster and a wit. And who else but Wig would dare offer a cup of tea time blend consisting of chai, mint and earl grey all in one pot. Thank-you Wig !
