A few stolen moments here at my desk before heading out for some quality leaf-raking, and to set aside mulch for the riot of weeds that will inevitably return many months from now…”Organic gardening is about growing soil”. My Tractor Tire Experimental Garden was a success; jars of luminous purple pole bean seeds set aside, and still enjoying a few homegrown spuds (growing potatoes?…NOT big news around here, but it is for me).
Fall and Winter is an opportunity to re-charge, hibernate for a spell (unless you’re a food stylist), and make plans for the next “peak season” when people and their appetites flock here for everything County. Meanwhile….do come visit for our wonderful Countylicious, and enjoy great local wines with some fabulous food. Those in the know enjoy our shores (there’s 800 km of them in Prince Edward County; 100 ft of them at the Nook) all year long.
Thinking of picnics (summer and winter, naturally) I’m still inspired by this shot of sandwiches I styled years ago for Canadian Living Magazine, photographed by Michael Kohn.
There’s a quiet serenity to Michael’s images that makes me wish he and his camera was here {right now} to capture the amazing, leaf-filtered golden light flowing through the maple trees…and grrrr….packing my eavestrophes. (I’ll save THAT Fall ritual for another day…no photos required, thanks.)
As chocolate is also on my radar, I’ve posted a slice of cake Michael and I had captured for a series of ads for Hellmans’s mayonnaise.
Yummy indeed, but rather pale in comparison the the utterly astounding cake arts of his wife, Bonnie Gordon. Whatever your cake….have it and eat it too. Me? I’d interpret that as an invitation to dare to dream those “Ruth’s Canteen” dreams. But first, lunch.
